Public Relations Summer Internship

SUMMARY

Support the Public Relations function and assist in planning and executing media campaigns and product pitches for the co-op’s three national brands. Primarily targeting and working with wellness, beauty/personal care and food media outlets. Also responsible for reviewing and proposing updates to PR processes including: sampling, media, and influencer management, trends distribution and PR metrics/reports.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Draft unique media pitches and editorial approaches for new products and brand-specific campaigns. Identify correct media contacts for each product/campaign and present best ways to pitch them based on audience and editorial. Draft backgrounders, press releases and media resources to support new product launches and campaigns. Help capture and file media impressions and create resources for web site updates and sales distribution, as appropiate. Review media and interview brand managers to compile trends reports and pitches ideas/PR plans for each brand. Support and prep for summer and fall in-person media events. Media list management. Review and updates lists in media management software. Create distribution lists for earned and grassroots influencers to send proactive content. Add comments and notes to profiles based on most recent interactions. Donations/influencer requt fulfillment. Review requests and provide replies and samples as appropiate. File and organize names in media management system. Create quarterly report template for PR placements and activities to share with marketing, sales, and other publics at Frontier Co-op. Strives to reduce waste, recycle products whenever possible, and re-use resources when practical. Works safely at all times, follows safety rules and policies and participates in scheduled training. Reports injuries and near misses promptly and in required detailed format; proposes corrective action. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

A second or third year student who is seeking a Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Marketing, Communications or related field from four-year college or university. Classes completed and/or documented experience in the field of media relations preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend detailed instructions, correspondence, reports and memos. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with a variety of people and respond to basic questions in situations where common courtesy and tact are needed.

QUANTITATIVE SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Strong writer with knowledge of current editorial process for print and digital media Knowledge of purpose and goals of a public relations function Creative thinker and self-starter with willingness to suggest new ideas that will streamline and enhance the effectiveness of the PR function at Frontier Co-op. News hound with passion for media and trends research (specifically personal care/beauty and food)
