Looking for internship opportunities this summer?

Deaf Iowans Against Abuse is a nonprofit organization devoted to our deaf, deaf-blind, and hard of hearing clients who are victims / survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault. We work with clients from all over Iowa to provide empowerment, advocacy, prevention and support services. Our services are free AND confidential .

Right now, we are looking for college students who will be in Cedar Rapids area from May to August. These students will be our first set of interns this summer. If you live outside of Cedar Rapids area, but would like to get involved this summer, please feel free to apply and send a quick email to our contact person.

We are looking for interested interns to help us with:

Administrative support

Office cleaning
Organizing supplies
Assisting with financial / mileage data
Operational support

Volunteer & Community Outreach (Cedar Rapids area and rest of Iowa)
Advocacy Programs (Peer Engagement, Legal, and Prevention)
Public Relations
Social media support

Event support

Fundraising event (Freedom Festival, State Fair, etc)
Awareness event (Any resource fair, State Fair, etc)
Any other DIAA programming or event
During your internship, you will have the opportunity to learn Sign Language. Sign Language is the common language in our offices. You will also get the chance to write reports and blogs about DIAA. You will help DIAA tremendously with your volunteering.

While learning about DIAA, you will have the opportunity to consider on whether or not to continue being our interns beyond August.

We are searching for college students who:

Will live in Cedar Rapids this summer
Are studying accounting, finances, photography, videography, business, communications, journalism, marketing, and social work. (We are also open to anybody studying something different).
Knowledgeable in social media
Are easy to work with and comfortable taking direction
Willing to learn about sign language and Deaf Culture
A working knowledge of confidentiality is a huge plus, but not required. A 3-hour training on confidentiality will be provided for all interns/volunteers.

Work hours are flexible. We are seeking a commitment of a minimum of 10-20 hours a week. Interns must have their own laptops, cell phones and transportation. The internship is unpaid and will last from May to August.
