West Music Company in Coralville is looking for a Human Resources Intern who is eager to learn the basics of working in a Human Resources Department. Our internship will offer you the opportunity to supplement your classroom knowledge with on the job HR experience. You will gain experience in several areas including recruitment, on-boarding, records management, compliance, payroll, benefits, and internal communications. Our intern will assist with HR projects and administrative tasks working independently under general supervision of the West Music HR team. Excellent customer service focus, creative and innovative problem-solving, stellar communication skills, able to complete projects with the highest attention to detail, and a high degree of flexibility are keys to success in this role.

This position is a 6 – 12 month, 20 hour per week paid internship in our Coralville, Iowa headquarters.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following.

Perform a combination of administrative and project-based functions.
Gain valuable experience in all aspects of the Human Resources functions, including recruiting, onboarding, HRIS, benefits, payroll, and administrative responsibilities.
Recruitment – post positions, evaluate resumes, schedule and conduct telephone and one on one interviews, evaluate processes and recommend improvements
Onboarding – assist in creation of a new onboarding process
HRIS – Utilize HRIS to process new employees, audit/update employee information and payroll changes, and run reports for key decision makers across the company
Benefits – develop communications and materials, assist with coordination of enrollment, assist in the communication and administration of employee benefit programs, distribute information to associates
Payroll – assist with entering information into the payroll system, updating associates time cards, calculating commissions, and verifying data changes
Administrative duties – perform website communications, develop postings, documents and other employee communications
Employment policies – assist with the finalization, implementation, and communication of HR policies, research, recommend, document or develop new or changes to existing policies
Participates in department and cross-functional meetings as required.
Provide administrative and reporting support for all HR related activities.
Assist with Employee Relations events, involved with the planning, execution and coordination of HR related company events and employee programs.
Maintain a high level of integrity and discretion in the handling of confidential information.
Other duties and special projects may be assigned as business needs dictate.


Education, Experience & Qualifications –

Required qualifications:

Academic Junior or Senior level
Currently enrolled in a college or university with a major and/or emphasis in Human Resources, Business, Management, or Communications.
Outstanding service orientation; sense of urgency; high-level of personal integrity.
Ability to work independently, but a strong effective team player; commitment to delivering results; solutions oriented; good organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
Solid written and verbal communication skills.
Good judgment and decision-making skills.
High degree of flexibility and ability to balance multiple projects, daily tasks, and deadlines
Demonstrated capability maintaining strict confidentiality with employee information.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of products.
