Job Description
Siemens Product Lifecycle Management Software, Inc. (branch office
located in the University of Iowa Oakdale Research Park in Coralville,
IA) has multiple internship opportunities for the 2016 calendar year
and beyond. Siemens PLM has development and sales offices located
around the world. The job is associated with supporting the dynamics
simulation software developed and supported by the Siemens PLM office
in Coralville. The job offers the candidate an opportunity to learn
about engineering analysis, software development, software support, and
software marketing.

Siemens PLM customers are primarily Fortune 500 companies and other top
tier engineering organizations around the world (Daimler, General
Motors, Ford, Honda, Toyota, Boeing, Airbus, Cessna, Deere, etc). This
is a great opportunity to get exposure to the most successful
engineering companies in the world, and learn practical aspects of
engineering from a leading technology company. The job consists of the
following possible activities:
• Test existing software to verify it performs as intended
• Develop new application software models to use in testing, training,
and demonstration
• Collect reference material to use in validating simulation models
• Write documentation explaining how to use software features and how
to apply the software to specific application problems
• Assist in training classes to answer participant questions
• Assist product management in updating existing examples and looking
for ways to adapt them to new applications
• Compare software results with data from competitors

The product developed and supported by Siemens PLM in Coralville is
called Virtual. Lab Motion and it was originally a spin-off of the
University Of Iowa College Of Engineering. This software product is
used to solve Newton’s equations of motion (dynamics) and predict the
position, velocity, acceleration and reaction forces of an assembly of
mechanical parts. The software uses CATIA geometry to represent the
parts in the assembly. This implies you will gain experience with using
commercial CAD software such as CATIA and NX and also learn about
advanced engineering design and analysis.

Applicants should have a good understanding of physics, math, and
computer software. Most work is done with various software applications
running on Microsoft Windows. Having a natural interest mechanical
things (cars, bikes, engines, etc.) is a plus, as is interest in
computer software applications.
