Part-time Intake Technician

All applicants must report in person to the Linn County Human Resources Department at 935 2nd Street SW between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday to complete the keyboard test. No appointment necessary. Please call 319-892-5120 if you have completed the keyboard test in the past 90 days, as you may not have to re-test.

Part-time (34 hours/week) position to provide initial client contact, explain application process and screen applications for completeness and accuracy. Requires heavy public contact at the counter and by telephone. Work is performed under immediate supervision of the Veteran Affairs Director. Explains the programs and/or application process to vendors and applicants. Answers phones and provides accurate and adequate information. Maintains, scans and updates client records. Opens, sorts, and distributes daily mail and faxes. Schedules appointments. Prepares letters, reports and general statistics as required by the Veteran Affairs Director. Provides information about community resources and refers applicants. Maintains and updates community resource (brochures) information. Performs all other duties as assigned. Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required. One (1) to three (3) years of experience in a related field required; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge skills and abilities. Knowledge of Veteran Administration programs preferred. Good knowledge of office terminology, procedures and office equipment including a microcomputer. Ability to recognize the need to refer situations to a professional worker. Ability to communicate and establish effective working relationships with co-workers, persons requesting services, agency personnel and the general public. Ability to work with the public in adverse situations and deal effectively with the public under stressful and/or difficult situations. Ability to type 55 words per minute by completing a keyboard test; and Basic Word and Excel tests administered by the Human Resources Department prior to the deadline. Regular work attendance is required. Shift: 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monday 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Tuesday – Friday

SALARY: $17.40/hour
