The University of Iowa invites nominations and applications for the position of Assistant HR Director-Athletics. This position will serve as one of two unit HR representatives within Athletics and report directly to the Associate Athletics Director for HR (Senior HR Leader). The University of Iowa is a NCAA Division I Power Five institution and a member of the Big Ten Conference. The Department of Athletics manages 24 varsity sports programs and related events with a workforce of approximately 225 regular employees and 450 temporary employees. Athletics is a people-centric organization that operates under a “Win. Graduate. Do It Right.” philosophy.

Position Overview

Support the Department by working collaboratively with the Sr. HR Leader and Associate HR Director to deliver HR advice and guidance to management team and employees; manage select recruitment, hiring and onboarding activities; initiate HR transactions; maintain personnel records; assist supervisors with performance coaching, progressive discipline and investigations; develop and deliver training to staff on HR processes (e.g., goal management, performance management, career development); monitor compliances; assist with maintaining departmental resources, including staff databases, organizational charts, Intranet and Policy Manual; and deliver excellent customer service.

Education Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management or Business Administration or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience Required:
One to three years of progressive experience in human resources
Working knowledge of, and the ability to:
Apply applicable state and federal regulations affecting human resources
Manage talent acquisition, including professional staff searches
Utilize Microsoft Office Suite/Office 365 and online databases
Manage concurrent objectives, activities and customers with high attention to detail
Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to act as a resource for, provide customer service in a courteous manner to, and work effectively with diverse groups of people at various levels within an organization
Desirable Qualifications:
Working knowledge of, and the ability to:
Initiate and review workflow transactions, including running reports and queries for gathering, analyzing and reporting data
Apply performance management tools to develop/improve individual performance
Proven ability to be at ease presenting to small groups
Experience with human resources functions, processes and policies at The University of Iowa; experience with P&S staff and all types of temporary staff highly preferred.
PHR, SHRM-CP or other professional certification.
