Duties:
Database Architect/Lead Database Administrator
Position to be filled as either Database Architect (PID5) or Lead Database Administrator (PID4) based on candidate qualifications.

UI Health Care Information Systems is seeking an experienced database professional to architect and manage the migration of data into a new vendor-supplied Cabooble data warehouse model from Epic Systems. Job duties include:

Provide ongoing support (modifications, enhancements) to existing custom data warehouse structures.

Design and implement data warehouse structures when new subject areas are added to the warehouse.

Support the implementation of the Caboodle data warehouse (from EHR vendor, Epic) by:
Administration of vendor-supplied Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) processes
Creation of vendor and non-vendor-supplied database objects

Participate in the integration of non-Epic sourced data
Work directly with data consumers, subject matter experts as well as other data warehouse architects in order to ensure optimal design decisions.
Contribute to the development of a mechanism for metadata management that can serve as a data dictionary describing definitions and lineage of data elements in the warehouse.

Aid in troubleshooting performance problems, backup/recovery strategies, security models, etc.

Salary and Benefits:

Permanent salaried position located at the UI Health Care Support Services Building, Coralville, IA.

Salary range is $95,000 to commensurate for Database Architect; $80,000 to commensurate for Lead Database Administrator

Education Required:
A Bachelor’s degree in computer science or MIS or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience Required:
To be eligible for Database Architect Level (PID5)

Typically 7 - 10 years of experience working directly with relational database systems using SQL and SQL procedural languages.
Thorough understanding of relational database design fundamentals and the ability to write and interpret highly complex SQL DML and DDL statements.
Experience interpreting query execution plans in order to identify opportunities for improved performance in a very high-volume database environment.
To be eligible for Lead Database Administrator Level (PID4)

Typically 5-7 years of experience working directly with relational database systems using SQL and SQL procedural languages.
Ability to interpret query execution plans in order to identify opportunities for improved performance in a very high-volume database environment.
Other Requirements for either Level

Experience interpreting, modifying and creating complex custom database stored procedures and functions.
Extensive experience with Microsoft SQL Server.
Experience working directly with data consumers and subject matter experts to effectively translate analytic requirements into technical database design specifications.
Advanced problem-solving abilities.
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and strong interpersonal skills.
Desirable Qualifications:
IT work experience in the healthcare industry.
Understanding of basic business principles (e.g. General Ledger, A/R, etc.)
Experience with Microsoft’s SQL Server Integration Service ETL tool.
Working knowledge of OLAP data structures using Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services.
Experience implementing source/version control in SSIS.
Practical experience working with the Epic EHR and Clarity and Caboodle analytic platforms.
