The Alliant Energy IPL Utility Accounting Department is currently seeking a Team Lead to work out of its Cedar Rapids, IA General Office or Madison, WI, General Office.

The individual selected for this critical role will be responsible for providing oversight and support for a small team of accounting personnel and will be tasked with supporting the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly and annual company financial statements and filings (10K, 10Q, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, ect). Additionally, in this role you will interface with industry regulators and auditors and will conduct accounting research and will make recommendations related to accounting polices and practices and oversee implementation.

Job Responsibilities
Assists in the development, proposal and communication of corporate accounting policies, procedures and financial information necessary to produce monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and requirements of regulators, taxing agencies, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and others.

Assists in the development, preparation and review of internal accounting reports, monthly operations data and analytical work related to accounting activities; reviews and approves journal entries.

Leads the coordination of all utility accounting issues related to joint plant billing processes and other service agreement billings.

Evaluates and assists in the implementation of complex accounting pronouncements, as well as in the training of staff related to complex accounting pronouncements. Provides utility related information for SEC filings. Leads the collection and flow of information to external auditors and is the primary contact for the external auditors for utility related questions.

Leads the coordination, collection and flow of utility financial results for internal and external reporting to regulatory agencies, senior management, trustees and others; financial planning and analysis.

Conducts research and recommends position or alternate proposals on accounting decisions of those regulatory agencies.

Assists in the development and maintenance of internal controls that ensure proper, accurate and timely recording of transactions and protection of assets

Assists in the interpretation of accounting orders or proposed rules received from the various regulatory agencies and communication of their impacts to management.

Performs all management duties including, but not limited to, budgeting, hiring, performance reviews, coordinating and scheduling work, salary recommendations, discipline, ensure employees report to work fit for duty, leadership, grievance resolution, coaching & counseling, models Alliant Energy’s Core Values at all times.

All other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications
Education and/or experience equivalent to a four year degree from an accredited college or university, with emphasis in business, accounting, or related area; Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred.
A minimum of three years technical and/or professional experience in public accounting or utility industry accounting.
Demonstrated effective leadership and supervisory skills preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles, theories, practices, and procedures of the utility industry.
Demonstrated financial skills such as budgeting and basic accounting preferred.
Demonstrated results oriented work style and ability to overcome obstacles to achieve desired results.
Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., e-mail, word processing and spreadsheet).
Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and deadlines, and work efficiently and effectively on cross functional teams in order to achieve results.
Knowledge of common accounting software applications preferred.
Ability to work in a diverse work environment
