JOB DETAILS

Percent Time: 100%
Type of Position Specified Term: A staff member may be appointed to term status for a specific term not to exceed three years in order to accomplish a specific purpose or when the duration of funding is limited or unknown.
Duties:
Molecular Otolaryngology and Renal Research Laboratories (MORL) is seeking a self-motivated individual to participate in biological research, clinical genetics analysis pipelines, and general computational support for the lab. Bioinformatics is a field that combines both informatics and biology; where computer applications are used for accessing, analyzing, and processing biological data. Key areas of responsibilities include enterprise system development for advanced genomic, molecular and medical genetics. Develop software solutions by interacting with the team to gather user requirements, investigating problem areas and existing solutions where applicable. Document and demonstrate solutions by developing and maintaining user, system, and installation documentation. Support development of applications throughout entire lifecycle of design, development, test, and support.



Education Required:
A Bachelor’s degree in a computer science field or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Experience Required:
5-7 years of related experience is required.



Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.



Experience computer science is required.



Proficiency in a scripting language such as PERL/python and UNIX is required.





Desirable Qualifications:
Research experience with Human genome and NGS is highly desirable.



Industry and/or Postdoctoral experience is highly desirable.



Familiarity with Java and web technologies and platforms is highly desirable.



inexperience in systems biology or human genetics is highly desired.



Proficiency in statistical computing platforms (R, Matlab, etc.) is highly desired.



A Doctoral degree in a computer science field is desirable.



Proficiency in database concepts and design is desirable.



Familiarity with high performance computing systems is desirable.



Experience manipulating large volume datasets is desirable.
