Alliant Energy currently has an exciting opportunity for an Energy Accounting Manager to work out of our corporate office in either Madison, WI, or Cedar Rapids, IA. The Energy Accounting Manager will perform technical accounting activities to support new strategic developments and will manage the accounting and financial reporting for energy transactions. This role requires a broad range of technical and analytical capabilities to help support our Company during a transitional time in the energy industry.

This position will require occasional travel (~5%) throughout the Alliant Energy service territory

Job Responsibilities
Leads accounting-related, qualitative and quantitative analysis of projects associated with energy transactions, potential acquisitions, investments, mergers, capital projects and other proposed transactions that require review by the Executive Committees and/or Board of Directors. Provides associated consulting services to operating units as required.

Ensures project results meet the specifications regarding quality, reliability and schedule. Monitors the performance of projects and recommends changes or additional resource needs and provides management with routine updates on the progress of projects. Demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge and experience in accounting when coordinating and leading the project related work.

Responsible for the accounting and disclosure requirements for various energy contracts and transactions. Serves as a key accounting consultant related to these areas to ensure compliance with the related accounting standards.

Assists in the development of business processes and maintenance of internal controls related to strategic projects and energy transactions to ensure proper, accurate, and timely recording of transactions and protection of assets. Accountable for maintaining compliance with internal control environment for key accounting processes.

Supports regulatory audits and provides accounting responses to inquiries received from regulatory agencies. Monitors regulatory and legislative initiatives that may impact the accounting department and keeps management team members informed of the relevant issues.

Job Qualifications
This position requires a four year degree from an accredited college or university, with emphasis in accounting and seven years of accounting experience. In absence of a degree eleven years of related accounting work experience is required. Certified Public Accountant designation desired.
Experience including in depth regulatory experience preferred (utility industry and Securities and Exchange Commission filings).
Demonstrated technical knowledge in the areas of accounting, derivatives, valuation as well as strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated strong analytical and project management skills.
Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management). Knowledge of financial technology systems preferred.
Ability to work in a diverse work environment.
