Temporary Literacy Tutors For Adult Students Needed Right Now!

at Catherine McAuley Center in Cedar Rapids, IA

Volunteer Literacy Tutors work one-on-one with adult students needing assistance in building educational skills. Many are learning English, preparing for the U.S. citizenship interview, or improving their basic literacy or math skills. Tutoring is an extremely rewarding volunteer position, as you develop a relationship with your student who is eager to learn from you. Believe it or not, just one hour a week for 10 weeks can really make a difference in your student's life.

Imagine how difficult life could be if you were not able to speak the language of those around you. Going to the doctor, talking to your child's teacher, or even ordering food would all be extremely difficult and taxing tasks. Helping someone learn English can make all of these tasks more manageable- changing isolation into community, uncertainty into security, and fear into hope.

Strong desire to assist others with educational goals. Must be 18 years of age, have High School diploma (or GED) and be available a minimum of one hour a week for ten weeks.
